Mayor Andy Ireland is encouraging the Livingstone community to remember and commemorate ANZAC Day in a number of services across the region on 25 April.

Residents across the Shire can attend a range of events in the area to pause and reflect on the selfless contributions that thousands of men and women made to help protect our country.

“ANZAC Day is a significant occasion nation-wide to honour the men and women who have fought and sacrificed for our country’s freedom, from the Gallipoli landing in 1915 to current military operations,” Mayor Ireland said.

“Livingstone is home to the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area and has had a long – standing and strong relationship with the Australian Defence Force, with both national and international training exercises taking place in our Shire for many years now.

“It’s pleasing to see how much community support there is for our Anzac Day services across the region, with thousands of residents of all ages turning out every year to pay their respects.”

Yeppoon, Emu Park, Keppel Sands, Mt Chalmers and surrounding areas will be hosting services, with marches taking place in Yeppoon and Emu Park.

The Yeppoon and Emu Park RSL’s will again be hosting breakfast and other activities from 5am to 5pm on the day.

Mayor Ireland thanked all local event organisers for their efforts in bringing its communities together each year to commemorate in solidarity.

“Please join us in showing our respect and honouring our nation’s veterans. There is no greater way to honour our ANZACs than by keeping their spirit alive.”
