Livingstone Shire welcomed its newest Councillor today, as Clint Swadling was officially sworn in at a declaration of office ceremony held at Council Chambers.

Councillor Swadling was appointed to the vacancy by resolution of sitting councillors following written application and an informal ballot process on 18 April 2023.

Mayor Andy Ireland presided over the ceremony and welcomed Cr Swadling to the team following his swearing in by Council’s Chief Executive Officer.

"Councillor Swadling brings a wealth of experience in state and local government and a strong commitment to building capable communities,” Mayor Ireland said.

Councillor Swadling, who has lived in the rural locality of Kunwarara for many years, is the 1st Officer of the Kunwarara Rural Fire Brigade, as well as an Emergency Management Coordinator with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

“I am thrilled to welcome Cr Swadling to our Council team and look forward to the valuable contributions he will make to Council and to the Livingstone Shire community,” Mayor Ireland said.

In response to his appointment, Cr Swadling expressed his gratitude and commitment to serving the Livingstone Shire community.

“I am honoured and humbled to have been appointed as a Councillor for Livingstone Shire,” Cr Swadling said.

"As someone who has worked in local government in Queensland and Western Australia, I know the importance of building resilience and working closely with the community. My mother served as a councillor for 26 years, so I understand the role and am committed to being a strong voice for our community.

“I am excited to work with Mayor Ireland and my fellow Councillors to build a better Livingstone for all."

Cr Swadling's appointment fills the vacancy left by former Councillor Nigel Hutton, and he will assume responsibility for the Planning and Strategic Infrastructure portfolio.

Livingstone Shire welcomes Councillor Swadling and looks forward to the valuable contributions he will make to Council and the community.
