Council Ahead of the Game After Release of 2023 Sporting Needs Analysis

Back
Livingstone Shire is an active, sport-loving community, and Council now has a tool to guide planning and expenditure to support the growing and changing needs of the community.

The 2023 Sporting Needs Analysis combines statistical data, evidence provided by sporting clubs and groups, and survey responses from over 450 residents to provide a clear picture of what the community wants to see to ensure our residents have access to varied, accessible, and high-quality sport and recreation opportunities.

The document provides a list of Livingstone Shire Council’s top ten sporting priority projects. This list will be used to guide expenditure and the search for external funding opportunities including the Cooee Bay Aquatic Centre redevelopment, improvements to and installation of new casual sporting facilities, and a continued focus on expanding and connecting walking and bike trails.

Portfolio holder of Healthy and Inclusive Communities Councillor Pat Eastwood said the Sporting Needs Analysis was important in enabling Council to continue supporting our growing and changing sporting community.

"Livingstone is an active community with everything from surfing to pickleball on offer, and it's important that Council understands what our community is asking for. We want to ensure everyone has opportunities to get active in our community, and the Sporting Needs Analysis provides us with this information," Councillor Eastwood said.

"We know that sport and recreation is good for people - not just for their physical health, but their mental and social wellbeing too. Council has an important role in providing facilities for people who want to be active, whether that's as part of a formalised sporting team or just shooting hoops with your mates."

Council adopted the 2023 Sporting Needs Analysis at their meeting on 17 April. The document can be found on Council's website -
