Playtime transformed as Kerr Park signature playground to be unveiled at official opening

Emu Park’s beachfront will be a hive of activity and excitement for the regions youngsters and families this Saturday, 15 February, at the official opening of Kerr Park’s signature playground.

The contemporary signature playground, complete with an attractive and unique shade structure and featuring a range of play equipment including an Alpha tower, double Flying Fox, all-abilities swing, a Galleon ship and other imaginative rides, was built to create an inviting space for the whole community.

The works commenced mid 2019 as part of Stage 3 of the Emu Park Village and Foreshore Revitalisation Project, proudly funded by Livingstone Shire Council and the Queensland Government in association with Emu Park Bendigo Community Bank.

Mayor Bill Ludwig said the $4.99million partnership project has transformed Emu Park’s foreshore into a major tourism and recreational drawcard for the seaside town.

“This project has been part of an overarching masterplan that was years in the making, and Council is thrilled to finally unveil this fantastic interactive play and recreational space for residents and visitors to enjoy on the southern end of the Capricorn Coast,” Mayor Ludwig said.

“Council would also like to once again sincerely thank the Queensland Government, Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga, Emu Park Bendigo Community Bank and the QCWA for their valuable financial contributions and ongoing support towards this important community project.

“We’re encouraging the community to come along to Kerr Park tomorrow to attend the official public opening of the new park and playground from 4pm to 6pm, which will include face painting, a treasure hunt and free ice creams for the kids.

“A special invitation has been extended to the family of Charles Kerr, who the park is named in honour of. Council is delighted to have Mr Kerr’s niece, Joyce, attending the official opening and 24 other descendants’ of the Kerr family.”

Assistant Minister for Education and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga was thrilled to see the project reach its completion and revitalise the beachfront area.

“This project offers plenty of fun and action for the kids, but it also provides a relaxing and welcoming space with landscaping, new barbecues, picnic shelters, all-access pathways and pedestrian lighting for the wider community to enjoy,” Mrs Lauga said.
