Seniors Month takes on a Hawaiian twist this August as part of Celebrating Tropical Seniors!
Council is inviting Livingstone seniors to say “Aloha” next month and join in a wide range of exciting activities and events on offer as part of the Hawaiian-themed Celebrating Tropical Seniors!
Although Council typically organises an annual Seniors Month program in October, the event has now been moved forward to August and rebranded with a vibrant and fun theme.
The program will focus on open house sessions, visits to garden nurseries, social events, as well as a Seniors Expo.
Councillor Glenda Mather said Council has teamed up with a number of local groups and organisations to host 20 events across the Shire throughout the month of August.
“This program celebrates the contributions of our seniors, focusing on the essential roles that older people play in our community and helping people of all ages, cultures and abilities to connect through a variety of events and activities,” Cr Mather said.
“From line dancing, chair Yoga, Pickleball, gentle walking, educational and information sessions, a movie screening, music morning and much more, there is such diverse variety of events and activities on offer for our wonderful senior’s community.
“The majority of events are free or low-cost, making them accessible to everyone in the community and encourages participation amongst all residents.”
Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio Holder of Healthy and Inclusive Community, said the Seniors Month events receive continuous positive feedback from past participants.
“The Shire’s senior community is the backbone to our community, offering expansive knowledge and wisdom and it is important to celebrate their contribution to the region,” said Cr Eastwood.
“A very special Annual Seniors Expo hosted by Oak Tree Village at Merv Anderson Park will also be held on 11 August and will feature well over 40 stalls and information on services and products available to seniors.
“Council would like to sincerely thank all of the agencies, service providers, community groups and organisations who have helped to make these events possible, and we look forward to celebrating with our local seniors.”
