Livingstone Shire Council Votes to Extend Discount Period and Due Date of Rates and Water Notices

Back
Livingstone Shire Council has today voted to extend the rates and charges discount period for fourteen days, making rates now due on Wednesday 13th September 2023.

Today’s Special Council Meeting decision follows feedback received that the earlier issue date of notices, coupled with a reduction in the discount period from 35 to 30 days had taken some ratepayers by surprise.

Mayor Andy Ireland said there has also been reports of postal delays in some areas.

“Council was keenly aware of the feedback from the community, and we have responded decisively to requests to extend the due date,” Mayor Ireland said.

“This will allow our rural, residential and commercial ratepayers and our pensioners more time to take advantage of the incentive offered to pay their rates promptly."

Mayor Ireland urged anyone experiencing financial hardship to contact Customer Service Centre for assistance.

Future discount periods will be 30 days from issue, and the timing of the issue of future rates notices will be considered to ensure consistency in due dates.
