Intending candidates in Livingstone are invited to register to attend an information session next month, ahead of the upcoming 2024 Local Government Election.

To be held on Wednesday, 8 November from 5.30pm, interested residents are invited along to learn more about Livingstone Shire, the process of elections, what it means to be a local government councillor, and next steps for candidates.

Livingstone Shire Council CEO Cale Dendle said by becoming a councillor, or even just running for election, you can make a positive difference to your local community.

“The 2024 local government election is on 16 March and intending candidates could find this session useful to inform their decision to potentially become a councillor,” Mr Dendle said.

“I strongly encourage anyone interested in putting their hand up to run in next year’s local government election to head along to the information session to gain a better understanding of their potential candidacy and the election process.”

To run for mayor or councillor at the 2024 quadrennial election, you must complete the ‘So you want to be a Councillor’ course within six months of the nomination period commencing, regardless of whether you are a sitting mayor or councillor, or whether you have never been elected before.

The 2024 local government elections will include elections for mayors and councillors in each of Queensland’s 77 councils.

Election day will be on Saturday, 16 March 2024.
