Uncover Something New at your local Library this Library Lovers Month!
You never know what you could discover during your next visit to your local library!
Uncover Something New is this year’s theme celebrating the national event known as Library Lovers' Day which is coordinated by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), and offers the community a chance to reconnect with its library.
The Livingstone Shire Library is a proud supporter of the day, so much so that it has dedicated a whole month to several exciting activities for all ages across the Shire’s various library locations.
Library, Arts and Culture Councillor Pat Eastwood encouraged residents to pay a visit to their local library and learn more about the many free programmes and services available.
“Starting from today, Council’s library is hosting seven playtime dates for kids, including Rhymetime and ‘Dance and Move’ Storytime, between Emu Park and Yeppoon library, including a special celebration for library visitors throughout Library Lovers Day on Friday 14 February between 9am and 11am at Yeppoon Library,” Cr Eastwood said.
“These are all fantastic opportunities to get the kids involved in learning and reading while having fun, and adults can explore the book shelves for a new title, or speak to one of our friendly team members to help sign you up to Council’s free online borrowing services.
“Council’s public library outlets provide a hub of quality information services which support lifelong learning, with many positive impacts on our community. Our region’s library outlets provide access to a wide range of information and resources which have been carefully curated and meet our resident’s needs.
“Not everyone can always afford to buy all the books or resources they need or want but what some residents may not know is that the library makes these free to borrow — whether that is an e-book, an audio book, a DVD, CD, or some other resource.
“At the library, community groups meet, workshops are taught, new skills are learnt, study groups can meet, games can be played, and technology can be used to create.
“Council is extremely proud to be able to offer such a quality service for our community to enjoy and I encourage more residents to join.”
Participating libraries include Yeppoon, Emu Park, Byfield and Marlborough libraries. Find out more on Council’s website at https://www.livingstone.qld.gov.au/168/Libraries or the Livingstone Shire Library Facebook page.
