Livingstone Shire Council and Woollams collaborate to rectify tiling at Yeppoon Lagoon

Livingstone Shire Council has completed a thorough audit to address ongoing issues arising from materials installed at the Yeppoon Lagoon, and Woollams were quick to respond with a solution to address safety concerns.

The council are aware of the anecdotal feedback from users of the Yeppoon Lagoon regarding issues with using the pool and the materials used to construct it. The audit's findings identified that the ongoing issue with the pebblecrete stemmed from a design fault, while the concerns around the tiles installed are attributed to workmanship. In response to these findings, Woollams, the original contractor who resides and works within our community, has pledged to collaborate closely with the Council to address and rectify tile issues.

Immediate repairs will involve replacing any currently detached or damaged tiles before the September school holidays. This measure aims to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of all visitors in time for school holidays.

Council and Woollams are also working together to develop a comprehensive scope of works for a permanent tiling solution. This solution involves a complete overhaul of all tiles at the Yeppoon Lagoon, with major repairs scheduled for June 2026.

Mayor Adam Belot said the Council is welcoming the collaborative partnership with Woollams.

“I would like to thank Woollams for the commitment they’ve shown to the Livingstone Shire community and for partnering with Council to keep the Lagoon safe and enjoyable for everyone.

‘The Yeppoon Lagoon is a much-loved community asset which is used by locals and tourists. The safety and enjoyment of our community and visitors are paramount. We are committed to addressing these issues promptly and effectively."

“I encourage the community to follow the Council's social media channels for up-to-date information on the progress of the repairs and any necessary closures. The understanding and cooperation of the community during this period are greatly appreciated.”
