Livingstone Shire Council is excited to announce the upcoming opening of the latest round of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), welcoming applications from local artists, individuals, and organisations.

The RADF program provides vital opportunities for the community to engage in and produce arts and cultural activities that foster social connections and enhance wellbeing.

Councillor Lance Warcon, Co-Chair of the Recreation and Culture Committee, emphasised the importance of arts and culture in strengthening community bonds.

“The Livingstone Community Plan: Towards 2050, highlights the goal of enhancing social connections through arts and cultural activities. The RADF grants are instrumental in achieving this by supporting a wide range of creative projects across our Shire,” Councillor Warcon said.

“Council is extremely proud to have assisted in supporting countless community arts and cultural projects, performances, and workshops over the years, and is strongly committed to this initiative and the positive impact it has on the wider community.”

Co-Chair of the Recreation and Culture Committee Councillor Andrea Friend, echoed these sentiments.

“By fostering access, collaboration, and creativity, the RADF program not only enriches our community but also promotes wellbeing and inclusivity. We encourage all eligible local artists and organisations to apply and take advantage of this fantastic opportunity,” Councillor Friend added.

Previous RADF recipient, Kim Payne, organiser of the Sandy Krak Reef Festival, said the funding enabled them to provide creative workshops to festivalgoers, fostering engagement and a deeper connection to the arts.

“The RADF grant has been an incredible boost to the Sandy Krak Reef Festival this year, allowing us to offer a diverse range of workshops that connect people with both art and the environment,” Kim said.

“It’s given our festivalgoers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in creative experiences that also highlight the importance of reef preservation.

“With twelve bands, live art attractions, and eco-friendly activities all centred around music, culture, and sustainability, the festival has something for everyone. We're excited to welcome the community to this year’s event on Saturday and encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the festivities, and celebrate our region’s talent and natural beauty.”

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a collaboration between state and local governments, investing in high-quality arts and cultural experiences across Queensland.

It supports key goals such as diversity and inclusivity, regional growth, and providing training, education, and employment opportunities for Queensland artists and communities.

Applications for the RADF grants open Friday 30 August and close Monday, 30 September 2024.
