Council is proud to announce the launch of Livingstone’s Active Seniors Week, a vibrant week-long program of activities held in celebration as part of Queensland Seniors Month.
Supporting this year’s theme, “Love Getting Older in Queensland”, the program, starting from Monday 21 October to Sunday 27 October, aims to promote active and healthy aging among older residents, encouraging them to embrace a more active lifestyle, explore new interests, and connect with the community.
Co-Chair of the Recreation and Culture Committee Councillor Lance Warcon said the event will offer a wide range of activities tailored to different abilities and interests.
“From tai chi, and lawn bowls to dancing and group exercise, seniors will have the opportunity to discover physical activities that resonate with them and meet their needs,” Cr Warcon said.
“Some of the bigger events include Activate Health opening the program with an information session on Healthy Ageing followed by group exercise and mobility workshops at the Yeppoon Town Hall.
“The Dance for Brain Health and Parkinson’s event will also include special guest Erica Rose from Queensland Ballet, who is the founder of Dance for Parkinson’s Australia.
“The program concludes with Grandparents Day at Krackers Bar and Grill where attendees can challenge their grandchildren to a friendly game of bowls!”
Co-Chair of the Recreation and Culture Committee Councillor Andrea Friend said by offering an accessible and welcoming program, Council hopes to inspire seniors from all walks of life to take the first step toward maintaining their health, well-being, and vitality.
“Livingstone’s Active Seniors Week is a fantastic opportunity for our senior community members to get involved in fun, interactive, and healthy activities,” Cr Friend said.
“It's not just about physical exercise — it's about building connections, fostering community, and celebrating the value that seniors bring to our Shire.
“There are many seniors who have contributed significantly throughout their lifetime to help in creating the strong and rich community fabric we have today, and it’s important that we acknowledge and celebrate them.
“Whether it's learning a new skill or simply making new friends, this program is about enriching lives and supporting active aging in Livingstone.”
Livingstone Shire Council thanks the Queensland Government and COTA Australia for their support to help Council facilitate these wonderful events for our senior community.
