Help young students to create modern play zone for Cawarral Palm Creek Reserve!

Livingstone Shire residents are invited to have their say on the proposed vision for the Cawarral Palm Creek Reserve, a space designed with the input and creativity of Year 5 and 6 students at Cawarral State School.

Through online surveys and in-person consultation, local residents and the wider community can provide valuable feedback on the prospective play space features and help bring the students’ vision to life.

Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Andrea Friend said the project, guided by input from young community members, aims to create a versatile, inclusive play area that honours Cawarral’s history while providing a space for people of all ages to come together and enjoy.

“The students’ ideas have been organised into four unique zones, each with its own character and purpose, and we’re eager to see the community’s thoughts on these themes, zones, and suggested names,” Cr Friend said.

Key elements highlighted by the students include:

• A welcoming environment for all ages and abilities to interact, think, and move.
• Celebrating Cawarral’s mining history.
• Incorporating natural elements within play spaces.
• Enhancing the existing boundary, respecting its use for the school’s cross-country course.

“This is an incredible opportunity for residents to collaborate with our young community members to create a play area that reflects both the heritage and aspirations of Cawarral.

“We encourage everyone to participate in shaping a space that will be cherished by families for generations to come.

“Your feedback will help ensure that the Cawarral Palm Creek Reserve is an inviting, modern space that meets the needs and wishes of our residents.

“This vision and consultation phase will provide the direction for Council to develop detailed designs. Council will then consider the project costings to source potential funding opportunities.”
