Livingstone Shire Council adopts revised Community Plan

Livingstone Shire Council is streamlining its approach to growth and sustainability by updating and combining its Community and Corporate Plans.

This integrated plan reflects Council’s commitment to better outcomes for residents, sustainable growth, and operational efficiency.

Mayor Adam Belot highlighted the need for this approach to address the region’s dynamic growth and evolving needs of the community.

“By merging these two critical plans, we are creating a clear and cohesive strategy for tackling future challenges and opportunities,” Mayor Belot said.

“This integration will simplify reporting, enhance transparency, and align strategic goals with operational priorities.

“While a community plan is not a legal requirement in Queensland, combining it with the corporate plan ensures compliance and forward-thinking governance.”

Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair Andrea Friend said the first Community Plan Towards 2050, adopted in 2019, has been integrated into this refreshed version, incorporating the much-valued community input and contributions.

“It was very important that the good work of our community, who contributed towards the original plan, was not lost,” Cr Friend said.

“Our new plan provides a clear direction, benefiting Council’s operating environment and providing tangible key measurements of success within our shire.”

Key benefits of the updated plan include:

  • Strategic Growth Alignment: A focused strategy to support sustainable development, economic vitality, and liveability.
  • Simplified Reporting: Easier progress tracking and communication with the community.
  • Improved Outcomes: Measurable goals benefiting the environment, local businesses, and residents.

The plan will take effect for the 2025-26 Budget, providing time for alignment with future budgets and operational plans. To ensure it stays relevant, the Community Plan 2030 will be reviewed within six months of each election cycle.
