Livingstone Shire’s generosity shines bright with Mayor’s Christmas Giving Tree Appeal
Back
The Livingstone community has once again demonstrated its incredible generosity and community spirit, with more than 150 items donated to support local families in need through the Mayor’s Christmas Giving Tree Appeal.
Launched in late November by Council, the appeal has seen residents unite to spread joy and kindness, ensuring no one feels left behind this Christmas.
Mayor Adam Belot said the response has been fantastic, with over six trolleys of donations collected from Big W Yeppoon and Drakes IGA in Emu Park.
These donations included toys, food, toiletries, and other essentials.
“Thanks to the heartfelt contributions of our community, almost 60 Christmas hampers have already been distributed to local families through the iCare project at the Yeppoon Community Centre,” Mayor Belot shared.
“This exceeds our initial goal of 50 hampers and is a true testament to the compassion of Livingstone residents.”
In addition to the hampers, toys and other gifts have been distributed to families via Vinnies Yeppoon, ensuring more children wake up to the joy of Christmas morning.
“Christmas is a time of giving and hope,” Mayor Belot said.
“This appeal is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together as a community. Every donation—whether it’s a gift, a can of food, or a thoughtful gesture—provides not just relief, but a sense of belonging and joy during what can be a challenging time of year.”
Mayor Belot extended his heartfelt thanks to the community and partners who made the initiative a success.
“A huge thank you to Big W Yeppoon and Drakes Emu Park for hosting the Giving Trees and creating convenient drop-off points for our community. And to the volunteers of the iCare project at the Yeppoon Community Centre—your dedication and hard work continue to make a real difference in the lives of so many,” Mayor Belot added.
“We all know Christmas should be a time of joy, but for those doing it tough, it can be a time of isolation and struggle.”
“Your generosity—no matter how big or small—makes all the difference. Together, we can ensure every family in Livingstone Shire feels the warmth and love of Christmas.”
While the Mayor’s Christmas Giving Tree Appeal is now closed, donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries can still be made at the Community Centre year-round.
Let’s keep the spirit of giving alive in Livingstone Shire!
