Council seeks feedback over proposed changes to Pilkington Park
Livingstone Shire Council is inviting the local community to share their views on a proposal for the Capricorn Coast Outrigger Canoe Club (CCOCC) to secure tenure over part of Pilkington Park in Lammermoor.
Mayor Adam Belot highlighted the importance of seeking public feedback on the change of use of the open space and having a permanent storage facility for the CCOCC.
“In 2023, the CCOCC approached Council seeking tenure over a portion of Pilkington Park to build a multi-purpose shed, which would serve as both a club house and storage facility,” Mayor Belot said.
“We are committed to meeting the needs of community organisations, ensuring they have access to Council-owned or controlled land through appropriate tenure arrangements.”
“But we also want the community to have a say about how their local assets are used.”
The shed would be used to store canoes, trailers, and related equipment, as well as provide a venue for meetings, training sessions, small social events, and regattas.
The proposed site for the shed measures approximately 20 metres by 14 metres, with an additional 1-metre perimeter around the exterior.
The site is currently a designated park reserve and zoned open space, meaning any changes to its use require careful consideration.
As trustee of the land, Livingstone Shire Council must ensure any changes align with the broader needs of the community and planning objectives.
Council has developed a draft Land Management Plan that outlines the proposed operations of the CCOCC and the intended ongoing shared use of the park.
This is an important opportunity for nearby residents and regular users of Pilkington Park to provide feedback on the proposed changes.
“We encourage community members to review the draft Land Management Plan and share their thoughts to ensure it meets their needs and expectations,” Mayor Belot said.
“This is a great chance to shape the future of Pilkington Park and ensure that all perspectives are considered before any changes are made.”
Residents can access the survey on the Livingstone Shire Council’s Get Involved website: https://getinvolved.livingstone.qld.gov.au/pilkington-park-consultation
Hard copies of the survey will be available for collection at Yeppoon Town Hall on Normanby Street.
Consultation is open until 5pm Friday 31 January.
