Livingstone Shire Council Invites Community to Lammermoor Native Gardens Community Engagement Open Day
Livingstone Shire Council, in conjunction with the Friends of Lammermoor Native Gardens, is excited to invite community members to the Lammermoor Native Gardens Community Engagement Open Day on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, from 7:00 am to 9:00 am at Lioness Park, Lammermoor Beach (access 12).
This event is part of the Livingstone Nature Based Resilience Project, an initiative launched in 2023 and funded through the Queensland Resilience and Risk Reduction Fund, jointly supported by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
The project aims to collaborate with the Livingstone community, government and non-government organisations, internal Council stakeholders, and other stakeholders to develop and deliver community-based coastal hazard practices.
Co-Chair of the Development and Environment Committee, Councillor Wade Rothery emphasised the importance of community involvement in such initiatives.
"The Lammermoor Native Gardens Community Engagement Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for residents to learn about and contribute to the preservation of our beautiful coastal environment,” Cr Rothery said.
“By participating, community members can provide valuable feedback and gain insights into the benefits of Nature-Based Solutions."
The event will feature:
- A pop-up stall with information on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and their benefits, including informative brochures and booklets.
- Community feedback on the LB12 beach access area design concepts.
- A guided walk led by the Friends of Lammermoor Native Gardens, highlighting native vegetation and ongoing preservation efforts.
"The open day is not just about sharing information; it's about fostering a sense of community and resilience," added Councillor Rothery.
"We encourage everyone to come along, engage with the displays, join the guided walk, and learn more about how we can collectively protect our coastal areas."
Participants are encouraged to wear closed-in shoes, sunscreen, sun-safe clothing, and bring a water bottle.
Don't miss this opportunity to engage with your community and learn about preserving our coastal environment.
