Livingstone Shire Council is pleased to announce the awarding of the contract for the next phases of the Greenlake Road and Artillery Road Upgrade to Durack Civil Pty Ltd, marking a significant step towards improved road infrastructure and enhanced connectivity in the region.

Funded through the Australian Government’s Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) program, these $6.184 million (excluding GST) investments will upgrade key transport links, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Livingstone Shire Mayor Adam Belot said the project is a vital infrastructure development that will benefit the entire community.

“We are committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing community,” Mayor Belot said.

“This upgrade will improve road safety, ease congestion, and support local economic growth by enhancing transport connections across our region.”

Infrastructure Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Rhodes Watson, said Durack Civil Pty Ltd was selected based on their proven expertise, competitive pricing, and commitment to delivering high-quality road construction projects.

“This investment in our road network is another example of how Council is working to improve transport accessibility and safety,” Cr Watson said.

“We look forward to seeing the project progress and delivering long-term benefits for the community.”

Mayor Belot added that projects funded by the federal government require specific WHS accreditations and Council carefully considered this requirement when awarding the contract.

"Council would love to award these kinds of projects to locals and we encourage local companies looking to tender for federal government projects to explore what steps they need to take to meet these requirements for future opportunities."

The project is jointly funded, with 80% provided by the Australian Government and 20% contributed by Council and is to be completed by 30 June 2026.
