Safer Streets Ahead as the Normanby Street Reconstruction Project Begins

Work is about to start on the vital Normanby Street Reconstruction Project, set to transform Yeppoon’s CBD.

Councillor Glenda Mather, Infrastructure Committee Co-Chair, expressed the importance of this project for the community.

“As well as improving road safety, the Normanby Street Reconstruction Project will also deliver improved connectivity of pedestrian and cycle pathways in the Yeppoon CBD” Councillor Mather said.

“This will be so beneficial in creating a more accessible and safer town centre, encouraging both residents and visitors to enjoy all that Yeppoon has to offer.”

The first phase of the project will concentrate on essential underground work, including upgrades to electrical infrastructure, and is expected to be completed by late 2025.

Council will then undertake the first stage of roadworks from Mary to Arthur Street, which will see significant upgrades to the eastern section of Normanby Street, improving road quality and pedestrian facilities.

Once this is complete, works on the western section of Normanby Street from Arthur to Park Street will commence with the full construction of roads, footpaths, and landscaping, enhancing the aesthetic appeal while improving accessibility and safety for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Livingstone Shire Council is committed to ensuring that local businesses, residents, and pedestrians can maintain access to the area during construction.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruptions to foot traffic and vehicle flow, with a focus on preserving parking options as much as possible throughout the duration of the project.

“We understand the importance of Normanby Street to the local community, and we are dedicated to making the construction process as smooth as possible,” Councillor Mather said.

“This upgrade will transform the area, improve infrastructure, and help support the long-term growth of the Shire.”
