Yeppoon is on the brink of a major transformation, with Council seeking federal funding assistance to deliver the first stage of the Yeppoon Town Centre Revitalisation project.

Mayor Adam Belot said the project builds on the success of the Yeppoon Foreshore redevelopment and will deliver long-term benefits for residents, businesses, and visitors.

“Revitalising our town centre is about creating a more pedestrian-friendly, business-supportive, and sustainable urban environment,” Mayor Belot said.

“Council has allocated $750,000 to this project as part of its Forward Works Program, but with the estimate for Stage 1 coming in around the $1.5 million mark, we are calling on the Australian Government to partner with us in making this vision a reality.”

The project will enhance pedestrian access, boost local business, and promote sustainable urban development through modern streetscapes and green infrastructure. With Council already committing funding and engaging extensively with the community, federal support is essential to ensure timely completion and momentum for future stages.

Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry applauded Council for progressing this priority project.

“This project will drive economic growth, improve public spaces, and reinforce Yeppoon’s status as a vibrant regional hub,” Ms Landry said.

“The revitalisation of Yeppoon Town Centre will attract new businesses, boost tourism and create a modern, vibrant space that strengthens community connections. By upgrading infrastructure and fostering a dynamic retail and hospitality scene, this project will reinforce Yeppoon’s status as a thriving regional hub which supports local jobs.”

Local business owner Ben Crowley from ‘The Alley’ welcomed the initiative.

“A vibrant town centre means more customers, more jobs, and a stronger local economy,” Mr. Crowley said.

The project aligns with key government priorities, including Livingstone Shire Council’s Community Plan 2028, Regional Development Australia’s economic strategies, and the Australian Government’s Regional Investment Framework. Economic projections indicate the project will create 25 jobs, inject $10 million into the local economy over the next decade, and attract further investment.

Mayor Belot emphasised that Council is committed to delivering high-quality outcomes for the community and that he would also be reaching out to Labor Candidate for Capricornia to gauge support for priority projects across the shire.

“We urge the Australian Government to co-invest in this vital project to secure Yeppoon’s long-term prosperity,” Mayor Belot said.

Council will engage with stakeholders and the broader community to ensure the revitalisation project meets local needs and expectations.
