Council Commits to Continuing Support for Outriggers Club
Livingstone Shire Council has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Capricorn Coast Outrigger Canoe Club (CCOCC) to help the club achieve a suitable long-term solution for their storage and clubhouse needs.
Following extensive community consultation regarding the club’s request for tenure at Pilkington Park, Council acknowledges the community’s feedback and is committed to finding an alternative solution that supports both the club’s needs and balances community expectations.
Mayor Adam Belot said Council has been actively working alongside the club to explore potential locations for a storage shed and clubhouse facility to support their ongoing growth and success.
“Council officers have been carefully reviewing a range of alternative options that will allow the club to safely store equipment, hold meetings, and support their training activities into the future,” Mayor Belot said.
“We will look to investigate opportunities that offer adequate space, optimal public safety and minimal disruption to surrounding areas.”
Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair Andrea Friend said Council values the important role community sporting groups like the CCOCC play in fostering active lifestyles, tourism opportunities, community spirit.
“We’re proud to support the Capricorn Coast Outrigger Canoe Club and we’ll continue to work closely with them to find a sustainable and achievable outcome,” Cr Friend said.
“We recognise the club’s contribution to our vibrant coastal community and are confident we can identify a suitable location that meets their needs, while balancing the views and feedback of the wider community.”
