Exciting Business Opportunity to Enhance Great Keppel Island Visitor Experience

Back

Visitors to Great Keppel Island are set to enjoy a world-class arrival experience with the development of the Great Keppel Island (Woppa) Arrivals Plaza and Amenities project. Council is now inviting proposals from businesses eager to be part of this transformative opportunity.

Mayor Adam Belot said the Arrivals Plaza will offer up to 160 square metres of flexible commercial space suitable for one or two tenancies and it’s a fantastic opportunity for businesses to be part of an exciting new chapter for Great Keppel Island.

“This really is an ideal opportunity for businesses who are keen to enhance the visitor experience on the island,” Mayor Belot said.

“With growing visitor numbers and a prime location, the Arrivals Plaza will provide a high-visibility, high-foot-traffic space that offers significant commercial potential.

“The ideal candidate could offer anything from information services, to light meals and refreshments, or island equipment rentals—this opportunity will really activate the precinct while providing local economic benefits.”

Strategically positioned as the first point of contact upon arrival, the Great Keppel Island Arrivals Plaza will deliver a range of benefits, including improved amenities, a seamless transition to island accommodation and activities, and new commercial opportunities that will enhance the overall visitor experience.

Development and Environment Committee Co-Chair Councillor Pat Eastwood said the Arrivals Plaza is a key element of our broader vision for Great Keppel Island’s tourism future.

“With beautifully landscaped open spaces, a central promenade, and a welcoming circle highlighting the island’s rich cultural heritage, this project is designed to provide an outstanding first impression for visitors.”

As part of the commitment to sustainability, the Arrivals Plaza will be powered primarily by solar energy with a battery storage system, ensuring a low-impact and eco-friendly operation.  Council anticipates the future tenant will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entirety of the Arrivals Plaza, including the amenities.”

Establishing the future use early in the process could help inform some of the outcomes of the detailed design. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2025 and be completed by the end of 2026, ensuring that visitors will soon experience a new and improved arrival to this much-loved destination.
