Strong start for women’s health & wellness program as Council announces second round
Livingstone Shire Council is celebrating the overwhelming success of its Let’s Move Program, which reached full capacity on the very first day of registrations.
A total of 80 women and girls signed up to take part, demonstrating the strong community interest in prioritising health and wellbeing.
The four-week program saw participants commit to engaging in at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week, with 18 different sessions available to suit a variety of schedules.
Alongside the physical activities, the program also incorporated educational workshops covering essential topics such as nutrition, mindfulness, the benefits of exercise, and overcoming barriers to participation.
Co-Chair of the Recreation and Culture Committee, Councillor Andrea Friend, praised the program’s success and encouraged more women and girls to take part in the upcoming intake.
“The response to the Let’s Move Program has been absolutely phenomenal. To see the program, reach full capacity on the first day of registrations speaks volumes about how valued this initiative is within our community,” Councillor Friend said.
“We’ve received an outpouring of positive feedback from both participants and facilitators, with many saying it has not only helped them prioritise their health but also build confidence and connection within the community.
“We are incredibly grateful to our wonderful facilitators, whose enthusiasm and dedication have been instrumental in making this program such a fantastic experience for everyone involved.”
Thanks to $25,000 in funding from the Queensland Government, Livingstone Shire Council has been able to deliver this vital initiative, enabling more Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.
Due to its success, the Let’s Move Program will return for another four-week intake commencing on 26 April, with registrations opening on 14 April.
“We encourage all women and girls thinking about joining to take the leap and prioritise their health and wellbeing,” Councillor Friend said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to engage in regular physical activity, learn valuable health strategies, and connect with like-minded individuals in a supportive environment.”
One of the clubs involved in the program is Yeppoon Gymnastics and Movement Centre Inc, a not-for-profit, committee led club that is dedicated in providing a safe, engaging, and well-rounded gymnastics program for all ages and levels of abilities.
YGMC Head Coach, Steph Mason said the club was excited to be a part of this fantastic initiative.
“We are thrilled to be helping these wonderful group of ladies build confidence and instil long-lasting habits that enhance their physical wellbeing. We are seeing success every week,” Steph explained.
“All staff at YGMC has been inspired by the willingness of the participants to step outside of their comfort zone and we hope to see them continue their journey in being the best version of themselves.
“Gymnastics is a sport fantastic to build overall fitness, flexibility, strength, balance and more definitely confidence, so we would of course love to see them continue with gymnastics and become a part of our club once the program finishes.
