Regulated parking in the Yeppoon CBD will recommence from 3 August
Regulated parking in the Yeppoon CBD will recommence from 3 August 2020, after being suspended for a period of time due to COVID-19.
Paid parking around the Yeppoon Lagoon will remain suspended until further notice.
Portfolio holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Events and Culture), Councillor Tanya Lynch, said it was resolved to suspend paid and timed parking until further notice at a special meeting of Council held on 23 March 2020, in response to requests from the business sector, as a result of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) impacts.
“Over recent weeks, there have been a number of requests made to Council from the
business community to reinstate the timed parking within the regulated parking areas due to an increase in business activity,” Cr Lynch said.
“There’s no doubt COVID-19 had a significantly negative impact on our Shire’s businesses. As restrictions have begun to ease, we have seen an increase in both foot traffic and vehicles within the Yeppoon CBD.
“This is a positive sign for the local business community and Council is pleased to support its calls to reinstate regulated parking.
“While timed parking will officially recommence 3 August, infringements won’t begin until Sunday 16 August, 2020.
“This will provide the community with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with regulated parking in the Yeppoon CBD once more, and for Council to launch its community education and awareness campaign.
“The recent school holidays provided a huge boost in revenue for a wide variety of businesses in Yeppoon, and reinstating regulated parking will help to support their operations by facilitating fairer and more equitable access to convenient parking.”
Council will be informing the community and local businesses of the regulated parking update using a variety of methods and communication channels including Council’s Facebook page and website at www.livingstone.qld.gov.au
