Emu Park Waste Transfer Station Upgrade to enhance safety and efficiency

Back

An upgrade to the Emu Park Waste Transfer Station is set to begin in April 2025, enhancing the facility’s functionality and efficiency while maintaining accessibility for residents.

The project is anticipated to be completed within four months, with an estimated total cost of $650,000, covering all phases of the project expenses.

The important infrastructure project has been solely funded by Council through its Capital Works Program.

The contract for the construction works has been awarded to 1One Group Pty Ltd.

Directors of the Yeppoon based company, Jamie Garner and Garrett Heenan expressed their enthusiasm in collaborating with Council to deliver this new and improved facility for residents of our fantastic region.

“We dedicated time to thoroughly researching construction options for Council and were pleased to identify innovative materials that will enhance the facility’s durability, insulation, waterproofing, and security. These advancements will offer long-term benefits to residents, staff, and Council alike,” Mr Garner said.

“Our team, all locally based in Yeppoon, is eager to commence work on this significant project,” Mr Heenan added.

“We are proud to partner with Council in delivering a modern, purpose-built community facility that will efficiently serve residents both now and for generations to come.”

Project Scope and Benefits

The Emu Park Waste Transfer Station upgrade will include:

  • A new covered recycling drop-off and sorting area.
  • Construction of a new gatehouse with secure storage.
  • Improved road access and dedicated seagull lane for better recycling sorting.
  • Clear separation of public and operational areas to enhance safety and efficiency.

Infrastructure Committee Co-Chair Councillor Glenda Mather said the improvements are necessary to bring the facility in line with modern waste management practices.

“The current waste transfer station is outdated, and these upgrades will greatly improve its functionality, safety, and overall appearance,” Cr Mather said.

“Importantly, the community will continue to have access to the site throughout the construction period, with only minimal disruptions.”

Works will be scheduled for weekday mornings before the site opens to the public to minimise disruptions.

While some areas will be fenced off during construction, the Emu Park Waste Transfer Station will remain open and fully operational for residents.

Council will keep the community informed as work progresses.
