Livingstone Shire Council Moves Forward with Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure in Yeppoon
Livingstone Shire Council is taking a step towards a more sustainable future by partnering with a qualified supplier to install, operate, and maintain Electric Vehicle (EV) charging on Council-owned land in Yeppoon.
All costs will be met by the qualified supplier and an annual license fee will be payable to Council. This initiative aligns with Council’s commitment to fostering sustainable transport solutions, supporting regional connectivity, and enhancing the local economy.
Livingstone Shire Mayor Adam Belot highlighted the importance of EV charging infrastructure in supporting economic growth and sustainability in the region.
“Council recognises the demand for EV charging infrastructure and the benefits it will bring to our community, including increased tourism, local business support,” Mayor Belot said.
“This initiative reflects our dedication to sustainable development in and enhancing regional opportunities.”
Development and Environment Committee Co-Chair Councillor Pat Eastwood said the introduction of EV chargers aligns with Livingstone Shire’s eco-tourism certification requirements.
“Providing sustainable infrastructure, including low-emission transport solutions, enhances Yeppoon’s appeal as an eco-friendly destination and strengthens the region’s position as a leader in sustainable tourism,” Cr Eastwood said.
“The deployment of EV chargers is not just about meeting the needs of EV drivers today; it’s about future-proofing our region and ensuring we remain competitive in an evolving tourism and transport landscape.”
Council will finalise terms with a qualified supplier, with further updates to be provided as the project advances.
