Apprenticeship and Traineeship Opportunities for 2025

What you'll need to succeed as an apprentice or trainee at Council?
- Commitment to safety in the workplace.
- Commitment to learn and complete the apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Sound level of numeracy and literacy skills.
- Possess and maintain a current provisional or open motor vehicle driver licence (or ability to obtain provisional licence within 6 months once eligible).
- Hold or are willing to obtain a Construction Industry White Card.
With support of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work – First Start Program Government funding, Council is offering 3 apprenticeship and traineeships positions for a 2025 commencement. To be considered for these opportunities, applicants must:
- Be aged 15 years or older and no longer at school (at time of commencement of apprenticeship or traineeship).
- Be able to meet citizenship, residency and visa requirements to undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Not currently registered as an apprentice or trainee with another employer.
- Not have a qualification that is equal to or higher than the qualification you would receive by undertaking Council’s apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Not hold a Certificate III or higher in an unrelated field completed within the last 7 years (unless obtained during high school).
In addition, under the program applicants are encouraged applicants are encouraged to apply from the below identified disadvantaged groups:

Communications and Engagement Officer - 3733

Council’s Communications and Engagement team are seeking to appoint a Communications and Engagement Officer to join their talented team of professionals who are at the forefront of changes impacting our local community.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced communications and engagement practitioner with exceptional communication skills and the ability to understand community issues and Council projects, programs, and initiatives. As a Communications and Engagement Officer, you will identify opportunities for collaborative community engagement of differing levels of complexity between specific localities, the general community, and elected Councillors and lead the process of engaging with stakeholders and interested parties.
You will have quality writing and editing experience and will assist with various aspects of corporate publications including editorial and communication activities and respond to enquiries. It is an essential part of the role to understand community issues and Council projects, programs, and activities. Your exceptional written and verbal communication skills will enable you to establish working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and produce professional communications including but not limited to briefing notes, reports, and website content.

Council’s Support Services team is looking for a Team Leader, somebody who is experienced in motivating and cultivating cohesive teamwork through collaboration, recognition, and achievement of shared tasks and goals. Being a great communicator is critical, as this position leads a support services team providing multi disciplined administrative support across the business unit and frequently engages with internal and external customers providing information, support and solutions.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in the provision of high level administrative support and supervisory experience leading and mentoring a professional support service team. You will effectively manage your time and responsible for planning and setting priorities, organising and delegating work, and coaching for improvement through monitoring performance and productivity. Revenue and Recovery Officer - 2646

Livingstone Shire Council has an opportunity available for a Revenue and Recovery Officer and the team is looking forward to welcoming its newest team member. Candidates will have experience in the management of general accounts receivable, timely processing of transactions, the recovery of outstanding debts and will have a sound understanding of Local Government Revenue Raising and Debt Recovery principals.
As a Revenue and Recovery Officer you will maintain the integrity of Council’s financial records and play a key role in maintaining rating and debtor databases. You will be responsible for providing high level administrative and financial assistance in a professional, efficient, and confidential manner. A proficient multitasker, you will respond promptly to enquiries and ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner whilst managing competing demands of your time.
The ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail and a working knowledge of debt recovery procedures (or willingness to learn) whereby you must be able to deal with people at all levels within the organisation and with external customers.
